“We were able to do what the general public never gets to do,” Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School teacher Jennifer Patnode said when she and her students arrived home from their trip to the New York State Legislature.
The students, all taking the Participation in Government class, enjoyed the unique experience of actually going on the Senate floor, sitting where the politicians sit and standing at the podium where the President of the Senate, Lt. Governor, Kathy Hochul, stands.
Patnode said the experience helped her students connect the concepts they are learning about government.
“It was perfect to have them see a Legislature similar to what they have learned about the national legislature.” Patnode said.
