For one week, Sept. 25-27, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk physical education teachers are inviting parents to join their child for PE class. This fun, interactive week will allow parents to engage with their child in an energetic and dynamic way. And, to encourage families to be physically active together at home and in the community.
This is the first-ever Take Your Parent to PE Week, sponsored by Active Schools, a national movement aimed at ensuring that students are active for 60 minutes each day.
According to Active Schools, physical inactivity among youth and childhood obesity have reached epidemic proportions in America where two out of three kids are not moving enough.
Active Schools says physical activity not only helps kids stay healthy and strong, but it can also contribute to higher test scores, improved attendance, better behavior in class, enhanced leadership skills and a lifetime of healthy habits.
