Updates on School Closure – April 1, 2020

RCS Parents/Caregivers,

As you are likely aware, on March 27, Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order closing schools until at least April 15.  Here is clarification about this order from the State Education Department.  This order requires schools to provide continuity of instruction, meals for students and childcare resources every weekday, including days originally part of the previously scheduled spring break, through the close of business on April 14, 2020.

If the closure is not extended, the implication is that we will return to school on-site on April 15. As you would imagine, there are a lot of people/groups engaged in discussion about this order. We will continue to monitor all available guidance and directives and keep you informed if this changes.

We know that the information in this executive order and the situation in general continues to raise questions and concerns – many of them unprecedented. In the near term, the executive order provides a roadmap for how we must proceed.  Our entire RCS community is grateful for your continued dedication to our students. We know this is difficult, but it’s what is being asked of us. We’ll get through this together.

Thank you all for your continued patience and partnership.

Brian
