Vandalism at RCS High School – Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On October 22, the RCS High School was alerted to hate-filled vandalism that was left on a bathroom wall. School officials and local law enforcement immediately investigated and, with the help of students and staff, were able to identify the perpetrator of the vandalism. This was a serious violation of the school’s code of conduct and this type of behavior has a negative impact on our entire school community. The consequences for causing such harm to our community are serious.

An assembly was held for all students at the high school this morning.  In this forum, I thanked those students that are doing the right thing on a day-to-day basis. I also shared that these types of hate-filled actions will not be tolerated here at RCS. The perpetrator was caught shortly after the assembly. The Albany County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit has stepped in to further investigate this incident.

Please take a moment to speak to your child about this event, its possible effect on him/her, and the seriousness of such actions. We do not want any of our students to be exposed to this type of hate speech. Students must be careful and considerate of their actions on a daily basis.  If any student says or writes hurtful things anywhere in this building, those words are heard. They do not belong here in this building and they will not be tolerated. Thank you again to those students that helped to apprehend the perpetrator of this vandalism. This is our school, and taking pride means taking ownership of our school.
