Verbal threat identified at RCS – September 16, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Wednesday, September 16, the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk CSD administration responded to a report of a verbal threat against the school community, made by a student, which occurred during class in the high school.  The student was interviewed by school administrators and representatives of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, who took immediate action. The student’s parents were also notified.

As always, we are appreciative of the students and staff member who came forward and their effort in keeping our schools safe. The incident of a verbal threat while on school property, regardless of the reason, is a serious violation of the RCS Code of Conduct. The school district has a zero-tolerance policy regarding incidents that infringe on the rights and safety of students and staff within our school district.

Please take a moment to speak to your child about his/her perspective on this event and to reinforce our expectation that our schools remain safe from verbal threats or intimidation.

Dr. Brian Bailey, Ed.D.
