Virtual field trips take students to the moon and back

“Oohs” and “ahhs” filled the classrooms in RCS Middle School as students put Google Cardboard virtual reality simulators to their eyes for the first time Nov. 24.

Students used the viewers, on loan for the day, as part of the Google Cardboard pilot program. However, middle school teacher Erin Sawyer and librarian Cara Buckley, are working to make Google Cardboard a permanent fixture in the classrooms.

“Even if we could get a couple up and running and get a couple of the classes using them, the students would benefit,” Buckley said. “It’s just so enjoyable to see them experience something that they have never experienced.”
