With the New York State Wresting weight certifications under their belt, the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk wrestling team is ready for their new season. The 27 members of the team, along with athletes from 21 other schools, were tested by Top Form, official weight certifiers. The process of weight certifications is to ensure that wrestlers are controlling their weight in the safest way possible and to determine which weight class each athlete is eligible to compete in this season.
Coach Justin Schipano says once the athletes are placed in weight classes, it gives coaches the opportunity to create a lineup that they hope will be the building blocks for a successful season.
“It allows us to put the right athletes in the right spots,” Schipano said.
With weight classes in place, the teams will begin their seasons. Junior Varsity will compete at the Central District Central Wresting Officials Association Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 25 at Shenendehowa. Varsity will scrimmage with local districts until their first match at Lansingburgh on Nov. 29.
