Pieter B. Coeymans Second Graders “Vote” in Sweet Election Day Activity

Pieter B. Coeymans second graders participated in a special Election Day lesson, taking to the polls to cast their votes for their favorite cookie candidate!

Before voting, students learned fun facts about the contenders, Milano Chocolate Cookie and Chocolate Chip Cookie, and discussed the qualities that made each one a strong candidate. The activity gave students an engaging way to learn about how elections work, the importance of making informed choices, and the difference between facts and opinions in campaign information.

As part of the voting process, students filled out a voter registration form, signed in to vote, and reviewed campaign materials for both cookie candidates before heading to the ballot box to make their final decision. Teachers noted that students took their roles as voters seriously, demonstrating respect, focus, and excitement throughout the experience.

Through this fun, hands-on lesson, Pieter B. Coeymans second graders learned that elections are not only about choosing a winner, they’re also about learning to think critically, share opinions respectfully, and participate in a process that shapes our community.
