Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (RCS) CSD is proud to announce the launch of its Girls Flag Football program for the Spring 2026 season. The addition reflects the rapid growth of girls flag football across New York State and the nation.
Girls High School Flag Football officially began in New York in 2024 and has quickly expanded to approximately 230 teams statewide. RCS will compete in Section 2, facing approximately 10 teams this season. Sectional competition leads to the State Championships held in Cortland in June.
Nationally, girls flag football continues to gain momentum. The sport is now offered in 30 states, nearly 100 colleges sponsor programs, and flag football (men’s and women’s divisions) will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
Leading the new program is Head Coach Bill Brozowski, who brings decades of experience as both a player and coach. A former Capital District Flag Football League Hall of Fame inductee, Brozowski has competed in national tournaments across the country and currently coaches multiple indoor and travel teams in the Capital Region.
“We are at the ground level of starting to build a program,” said Brozowski. “I’m excited to teach the girls a new sport that can create opportunities at the next level. It’s the fastest-growing women’s sport in the country.”
Flag football emphasizes speed, agility, strategy, and teamwork, offering the competitive atmosphere of football without full-contact tackling. Athletes from soccer, basketball, track, and softball bring highly transferable skills that position them well for success in the sport.
RCS plans to expand the program in the coming years, with hopes of introducing modified and junior varsity levels as interest grows. The long-term vision is to establish RCS as a leading program in the Capital Region.
The team has 10 scheduled games this season, and community support will play a key role in building the program’s culture and future success.
“We would love to see our students and community come out and support the team,” Brozowski said. “The growth of this sport will be monumental.”
