Pieter B. Coeymans’ very own Starbees continues to grow and bring plenty of smiles along the way. What began as a small, mobile coffee cart has blossomed into a cozy and welcoming café space just outside the STEAM room, becoming a favorite stop for staff each week.
Starbees is a student-run life skills program where students in grades K–5 build language, social, and communication skills while serving coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to staff on Friday mornings. Beyond practicing math and money-handling skills, students gain confidence, learn teamwork, and take pride in running their own operation. A meaningful part of the experience is giving back. Students help select charitable causes to support with the funds they raise.
This year, Starbees reached an impressive milestone, brewing its way to a $1,000 donation for the Regional Food Bank. The Friday morning crowd eagerly lines up not just for a warm drink or a sweet treat, but to support the students behind the counter.
Starbees is a shining example of how hands-on, student-led learning can foster independence, build real-world skills, and make a positive impact in the community.
Congratulations on another successful and inspiring year!
