AWB Wackadoodles Running Club Cross the Finish Line at Albany Kids Run

For the past seven weeks, 20 students in grades 3, 4, and 5 at A.W. Becker Elementary School have been training to participate in the 16th Annual Sara Lee Delightful 1-Mile and 3K (1.86-mile) Kids Runs, held on Saturday, May 30, in Albany.

To prepare for race day, students arrived early to school two mornings each week, where they learned proper stretching techniques, how to pace themselves over longer distances, and strategies for building the mental stamina needed for distance running.

This fun and inspiring club was originally founded by longtime RCS physical education teacher Cheryl Morenz, who created the Wackadoodle Running Club to introduce students to the joy and discipline of running. A.W. Becker has proudly continued the tradition, keeping both the name and the club's spirit alive.

This year, the Wackadoodles were led by Mr. Herwick and Miss McClave, who supported their students every step of the way and were there to cheer them all the way to the finish line.

A big thank you goes to the AWB PTA for generously funding the club t-shirts and to Karen Waddingham for making the shirts!

Well done, Wackadoodles! Way to go flying to the finish!
