Fall fun and math came together once again at A.W. Becker Elementary during the school's annual “Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin” contest! Each October, students and staff across all grade levels are invited to participate in this seasonal challenge by estimating the weight of a giant pumpkin displayed outside the school.
Before submitting their guesses, students watch a presentation that introduces estimation strategies and encourages them to compare the pumpkin's size and weight to familiar objects. With a few helpful clues, students put their math skills to work and make their best predictions!
This year's competition brought some impressive guesses! Congratulations to fourth grader Cambree, who guessed 95 pounds, and second grader Liam, who guessed 97 pounds. Both students came incredibly close to the pumpkin's official weight of 96 pounds! A special congratulations also goes to Miss McClave, who guessed the exact weight of this year’s pumpkin! Each winner was given a Stewart’s Gift Card!
A.W. Becker would like to thank Farmer Jon's for growing and generously donating this year's pumpkin, the PTA for its continued support, and A.S.A.P. Inc. Coordinator Mrs. Carrie Gill for sharing her amazing pumpkin-carving talents.
