Collage of pictures of Nancy being celebrated in a classroom

RCS recently celebrated a very special milestone at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School, recognizing Nancy Bruno for an incredible 25 years of service with the Seniors Teaching and Reaching out to Students (STARS) Intergen Corp. helpers program!

Since joining STARS, Nancy has been a valued part of the RCS school community. Working alongside staff and students at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School, she has built lasting relationships and created special memories along the way. During her time with the program, Nancy has worked with more than 400 students!

The STARS program brings together students and senior citizens, creating meaningful intergenerational connections while enriching students' educational experiences. Beyond the classroom, volunteers also participate in service projects that benefit not only the school district but the entire RCS community. Over the years, STARS volunteers have helped provide meals to students in need during the summer, assisted teachers with instruction and social-emotional support, collaborated with students on intergenerational programs at the VanAllen Senior Apartments, and provided support during numerous school events.

The celebration also included recognition of Nancy's 95th birthday, making the occasion even more special. The front lobby at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary and the first-grade classroom where Nancy spends her time were decorated to mark the occasion. The students of Ms. Crown's class also created a class gift along with some special birthday wishes.

Nancy's dedication to helping others extends well beyond the STARS program. She has been a member of the Coeymans Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for more than 60 years, volunteers at St. Patrick's Thrift Store, is a member of the Ravena Coeymans Historical Society, and serves as a trustee of The Little Red Schoolhouse. Her continued commitment to the community is a testament to her remarkable passion for serving others and lifelong dedication to making a positive impact in her community.

RCS extends a heartfelt thank-you to Nancy for 25 years of service, kindness, and dedication to our students and school community. We are so fortunate to have her as part of the STARS program!
