School Board Recognition Week

Monday, October 18  through Friday, October 22, is Board of Education (BOE) Recognition week. New York State has nearly 700 public school districts, each with its own board of education. This is a time to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by school board members. The RCS School District is joining all public school districts across the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to RCS School District and its children.

The RCS School District Board of Education consists of nine members, President Edward Reville, Vice-President Jason Hyslop, Bray Engel, Tina Furst-Hotaling, Kristin Hill-Burns, Tracy Klein, William McFerran, Peter Ross, and Yvonne Shackelton (pictured below). You can find more information about our BOE members in the profiles on our website.

The RCS School District wants to say a big THANK YOU to our Board of Education members for their commitment to our school community. The Board of Education is an essential part of all school districts in New York. This unpaid position requires the BOE to wear many hats. They hire and evaluate the superintendent, establish school district policies, develop our annual budget that aligns district resources to improve achievement, and support a healthy school district culture in which to work and to learn. Most importantly, they act as a two-way communications link between residents and the RCS School District. All of these efforts, and the Board of Educations' hard work, allow for the continuous improvement of our district.

The decisions of your elected board of education affect your child, your child’s future, your tax rate, and the well-being of your community. Our Board of Education works hard to ensure our community is heard. Families’ participation in such important matters, along with the school district and the community working together, will provide the best possible educational programs for our students throughout their entire time here at RCS.

The RCS School District greatly appreciates all the effort and time our Board of Education members commit to our district, to bettering our community, and to our student’s future. You can find more information about our Board of Education here.
