Recently, RCS Senior Madison Sleurs used her version of The Grinch during a recent Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School cosmetology lab.

Seniors in the two-year Cosmetology Program were challenged to select a childhood character to recreate using their makeup and hairstyling skills. Other students created a wide variety of festive characters ranging from Cindy Lou Who to the Sugar Plum Fairy.

“I picked the Grinch because I have always liked the movie and the character. Its stressful, but fun,” she said.

The project is part of a curriculum that teaches students the competencies and skills needed to pass the New York state practical and written licensing exams while providing students the state-required 1,000 hours of instruction.

Many graduates go to work in the industry directly after graduation, while others pursue a college education.

After graduation, Sleurs plans to bring her skills right to the workforce.
