RCS Senior Roberto Gonzalez Jr. participates in first-ever Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Signing Day

Senior Roberto Gonazalez Jr. has been hard at work these past two years fine-tuning his electrical trade skill sets in the BOCES Career and Technical Education Program (CTE), and it is really paying off!

On Thursday, May 5, Roberto Gonzalez Jr. attended the first-ever Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Signing Day. During the inaugural ceremony, he signed a letter of intent – in front of area dignitaries, family and educators – to accept a job offer at TCI of NY, LLC.

The Capital Region BOCES National Signing Day event was affiliated with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) National Letter of Intent Signing Day, mirroring the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.

Mark Westcott of TCI Inc. of NY said his firm’s partnership with BOCES, which led to the signing of Mr. Gonzalez Jr., has already paid dividends for the company. “When the students come to work with us, they come ready to work and with the skills they need,” he said.

“Everyone here deserves a round of applause for creating a pipeline of skilled workers to keep our economic momentum going. These students you see here today are the keepers of the economy,” added New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon.

CTE is a fantastic option for students who are interested in exploring a trade, a licensed profession, or excel with hands-on learning. RCS students currently have access to 29 different programs. These programs allow the students to explore the curriculum of the area they are interested in and then practice with the help of a professional. The program also provides students direct access to potential employers and work opportunities during their time at CTE.

The RCS Central School District and Capital Region BOCES CTE Program are committed to providing opportunities and highlighting the value of career paths in the trades for students. These highly in-demand jobs offer fantastic careers, stability, and long-term growth opportunities.

Please join us in congratulating and celebrating Roberto’s accomplishment!
