PBC Student Council and Coeymans Police

On Tuesday, May 10, students in the Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary 5th Grade Student Council created individual gift bags to be delivered to area first responders to show appreciation for keeping our school community safe.

The personalized gift bags were put together for nearly 52 volunteer firefighters and nine police officers that currently protect and serve the Coeymans area. The student council created the personalized gift bags that included the following items for the first responders to enjoy: candy, mints, pens, tissues, and other small items and treats.

“The PBC Student Council is excited to show their appreciation to our first responders,” said Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary Principal Mr. Jones. “The gift bags are a symbol of our gratitude and allowed our students to incorporate the district’s 4 C’s into this project, collaboration, creativity, communications, and critical thinking.”

The PBC Student Council students utilized an assembly line process to streamline their production while creating each personalized gift bag. In addition, to keep the project and distribution effort streamlined and safe, Coeymans Police Chief Tryon and an Officer stopped by to pick up and arrange the delivery of the bags to their law enforcement colleagues. PBC Student Council members then personally delivered the remainder of the gift bags to the Coeymans Fire Department, which is located directly across from the Pieter B. campus.

“The students really wanted to do something to say thank you to our local heroes,” said Student Council Advisor Mr. Tim King. “They came up with this idea as a way to show our appreciation for the members of our community that do so much to help keep us safe! I am so proud of them.”

As a district, we continue to thank our first responders for their dedication and effort to allow RCS students to continue to thrive in today’s classroom.

Thank you to all of our first responders, and we hope you enjoy the gifts!!
