On Tuesday, May 24, a group of 28 RCS students were inducted into the National Honor Society. The group, which consisted of sophomores and juniors, was presented with membership cards and recognized for meeting the high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
As part of the induction process, a comprehensive survey is sent to all high school faculty and staff to evaluate the qualities of those recommended for induction, with a five-member faculty council determining the final list of inductees. Students also needed to have clean discipline and attendance records, in addition to having a cumulative weighted grade point average of 90% or higher. Additionally, all members must take a minimum of 5 credit‐bearing classes and physical education each semester and be pursuing an Advanced Regents Diploma. Lastly, students need to evaluate themselves and how they represent themselves in relation to service, leadership, and character. During the school day before the ceremony, the inductees found out about their acceptance when an NHS member visited them to deliver the good news!
“My co-adviser, Kelly Cobb, and I are so excited to welcome this group of 28 students into RCS's chapter of National Honor Society,” said National Honor Society Co-Adviser Ms. Foley. “To be inducted into the National Honor Society is a special achievement and represents this select group of students' commitment and dedication inside the classroom. In addition, we want to take this time to acknowledge and thank this year's officers, Co-Presidents Uchenna Uba and Max May; Co-Secretaries Chesnie Waddingham and Alicia Craft; and, Treasurer Maria Morrow.”
The in-person event also included words of inspiration and encouragement to the new inductees and their families by RCS High School Principal Dr. Patierne.
