Students Weigh In on the Great Pumpkin at A.W. Becker

Each October, A.W. Becker Elementary adds a touch of math fun to the fall season with its annual Great Pumpkin Competition. Students from every grade are invited to take their best guess at the weight of a giant pumpkin proudly displayed outside the school, turning estimation into an engaging, hands-on math challenge.

To kick things off, students view a short presentation that helps them practice estimating weight by comparing the pumpkin to other familiar objects. Then, it’s up to each student to use those clues to make their best guess!

This year’s winner was fifth grader Everly G., who guessed the exact weight of 117 pounds, an impressive feat!

A.W. Becker extends heartfelt thanks to Farmer Jon’s for growing and donating this year’s pumpkin, to the PTA for their continued support, and to A.S.A.P. Inc. Coordinator Mrs. Carrie Gill for her incredible pumpkin carving talents.
