AWB dives into their month-long March Reading Madness Tournament

A.W. Becker Elementary School will be celebrating reading and literacy by hosting a tournament of books competition throughout the month of March. The theme for the March Reading Madness Tournament is Books that make us laugh!

16 silly picture books will compete head-to-head in a tournament-style competition for the top title of Champion. There will be two champions and two brackets - one for kindergarten through 2nd grade and one for 3rd through 5th grade.

“This is a great opportunity for students to explore books and have fun reading,” said ELA & Social Studies Curriculum Content Specialist and Reading Interventionist Sarah Pulcher. “Not only does it bring a sense of community to the building by having everyone reading the same books, but the students get to participate in an engaging activity that exercises their reading skills.”

All classes read two picture books per round. They then get the chance to vote on their favorite. The book that receives the highest number of votes moves on. There will be three rounds total. We can’t wait to see who the big winners are! Stay tuned!
