AWB PTA Presents: Family Invitation to The Real-Time Smart Talk Program

The A.W. Becker Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was recently awarded a grant from the National PTA to help educate families and students on internet safety. The grant, sponsored by Norton, was only awarded to 150 PTAs nationwide, and the AWB PTA was one of only three in New York State to receive this grant!

The grant will allow the AWB PTA to host an interactive internet safety night. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 14, at AWB Elementary School. The evening begins with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the presentation, and the AWB PTA meeting will follow immediately after with a raffle basket drawing. Free childcare with fun Valentine's Day activities for the kids will also be provided!

The evening will include an interactive presentation for families from District Data Coordinator and Data Privacy Officer, Carol Eckl. The goals for the evening are to educate families about the importance of being safe, responsible, and smart online, as well as to teach families how to use The Smart Talk tool and facilitate interactive family activities and conversations focused on digital safety.

The Smart Talk is an interactive tool created by the National PTA and Norton that guides families through a sequence of digital safety questions, and can create a personalized family agreement for how technology will be used at home that helps keep everyone safe! The presentation will cover topics like privacy and safety communications, media choices, finding your family’s technology balance, and how you represent yourself online.

The event is open to any RCS student and their family. RSVP is requested and can be done through this google form: https://forms.gle/rb9BptnhJ6FLgLFq7

Big thank you to the AWB PTA for working to secure the grant and putting together this important and informative event!
