Pieter B. Coeymans' very own Starbees had a grand reopening this week, now featuring a fresh new storefront! What was once a mobile coffee cart has transformed into a cozy and welcoming café just outside the STEAM room.
Starbees is a student-run life skills project where students in grades K–5 practice language, social, and communication skills by selling coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to Pieter B. staff on Friday mornings before school. In addition to building confidence and math fluency, the students choose charitable causes to support with the money they raise. The project serves as a fantastic example of how student-led initiatives can make a positive impact while helping students develop valuable life skills.
On reopening day, Starbees brewed up over $100, which will be donated to support the Capital City Rescue Mission. The morning crowd was excited by the transformation, and some regulars enjoyed their drinks at the brand-new, cheerful bistro set before heading to their first class.
Congratulations to Starbees on their new look. Same great brew, now served with extra smiles!
