5th Graders Continue “Joyful Generations” Partnership with Local Seniors

Fifth-grade students at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School have spent the school year making a meaningful impact through a program focused on connection, creativity, and community.

In partnership with Senior Projects of Ravena, students dedicated time throughout the year to brightening the lives of local seniors. Now in its second year, the program continues to unite generations and helps students understand the value of empathy and service.

The projects began in the fall, when students created handmade Thanksgiving cards that were delivered alongside holiday meals through Meals on Wheels. These thoughtful gestures helped spread warmth and cheer during the colder months.

As spring approaches, students turned their attention to creating colorful, engaging magazines for seniors at the center. Filled with student artwork, stories, puzzles, and personal messages, the magazines were thoughtfully designed to entertain, inspire, and bring joy to their readers.

Each student took a personal approach to their contributions, researching and creating pages that reflected their own interests and passions. The magazines featured a wide variety of topics, from fascinating animal facts about axolotls, otters, and cats, to the history of the candy bar, step-by-step bracelet-making guides, and even recipes like strawberry cake. The result was a vibrant collection of pages that showcased not only students’ creativity but also their thoughtfulness and desire to connect with others.

“Joyful Generations” continues to be a celebration of kindness and connection across ages. Through this initiative, students not only formed bonds with local seniors but also gained a deeper understanding of empathy, service, and the importance of community.

Thank you to Senior Projects of Ravena for their continued partnership in making this impactful program a success.
