The PBC Disc Golf Club provides our elementary students with a unique opportunity to learn and enjoy the growing sport of disc golf. Founded about three years ago by advisors Sean Powers and Christopher Chromczak, the club meets before school on Tuesdays and welcomes students interested in developing new skills, practicing teamwork, and having fun outdoors.
During club meetings, students learn the fundamentals of disc golf, including game rules, course etiquette, and a variety of throwing techniques. During a recent club meeting, students practiced the “apple pie” technique along with the flick, or forehand, throw as they continued to build their skills and confidence in the sport.
The club has also benefited from strong community support this year. The Pieter B. PTO donated custom course markers to help students identify their places along the course. In addition, MVP Disc Sports donated discs through its Classroom Collab program, giving students access to additional equipment and learning opportunities.
Students are able to practice on several disc golf baskets located behind the building along the baseball field. The baskets were installed a few years ago to provide students with an engaging recreational activity that encourages physical activity, focus, and sportsmanship.
The PBC Disc Golf Club continues to grow in popularity and offers students another way to stay active and involved in the school community.
