🚌💎 This week, Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary 3rd graders took a field trip to the Holcim Quarry! The students have been learning about geology and had the opportunity to see rock formations up close and learn how the quarry operates. A big thanks to Holcim for hosting our curious learners!

This year, the RCS Music Department was thrilled to expand its annual Meet the Instruments Night, welcoming both third and fourth-grade students and their families! This special event gave students a hands-on opportunity to explore a variety of instruments, get inspired, and start thinking about joining our growing RCS music program.
A big thank you to the staff of the RCS Music Department, members of the High School Tri-M Music Honor Society, and other talented high school instrumentalists who helped make the night a success. And a special thank you to John Keal Music Company for generously providing demo instruments, cleaning materials, and staff support. Together, we’re building a strong future for music at RCS!

This year, the RCS Music Department expanded its annual Meet the Instruments Night to include not only fourth-grade students and their families but also, for the first time, third graders! This special event not only inspires young students to consider joining the music program but also fosters connections through the joy of music!

💃🕺 The students in dance intramurals at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary wrapped up their season with their final performances last week! With enthusiasm, rhythm, and lots of smiles, these young dancers showed off everything they’ve learned. Way to go, dancers!

On Thursday, April 24th, Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School hosted an Art Show and Community Night. Our talented and creative students' beautiful artwork lined the hallways for families and the community to see! Our staff, Parent Teacher Organization, Ravena Innovation Station, and RCS Community Library held special events for the whole family to enjoy. Thank you to all the students, staff, families, and community members who supported this wonderful event!

Yesterday, we celebrated our incredible bus drivers and transportation staff. Rain or shine, early mornings and late nights, our RCS Transportation Staff work tirelessly to keep our students safe and get them where they need to go!
Bus drivers do so much more than drive - they connect people. They are some of the first hellos in the morning, the ones who celebrate with congratulatory high-fives after an away game day win, and they provide a listening ear on those hard days. Thank you for all that you do!

Yesterday was Earth Day, remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible! PBC teachers and students are encouraged to continue their efforts to reduce the amount of material taken to landfills by recycling. PBC 5th grader Adleigh A. created a reminder to recycle during Ms. Chriss's art class.

RCS staff spent the afternoon focused on professional development, engaging in sessions on restorative practices at the elementary and secondary levels, certification pathways, and curriculum planning. In addition to learning and collaboration, staff enjoyed a fun fitness session with RCS retiree Terry Crawford!

Today, RCS celebrates World Down Syndrome Day! Students, faculty, and staff showed their support by wearing silly socks in blue and yellow. This day reminds us of the importance of inclusion and embracing diversity, values that are at the heart of our mission: Providing a safe and supportive learning environment in which all are valued and challenged to become responsible members of a global society. 💙💛 We are proud to foster a community where everyone is encouraged to be their true selves and thrive together. #WorldDownSyndromeDay

The days are getting warmer, but the nights remain chilly, creating the perfect conditions for maple syrup production! Students at both A.W. Becker and Pieter B. Elementary have been learning about maple sap production, including how to tap trees and collect sap. If you’ve driven past either of our elementary schools recently, you may have noticed the beginning of the sap collection in bright blue bags, which will be transformed into syrup. Last week, several classes took a field trip to Crosstown Maple to learn more about the process of converting maple sap into delicious syrup and discuss the various methods of sap collection.
