Community Comes Together to Feed RCS Families This Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, 30 Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Middle and High School families are able to enjoy full holiday meals thanks to a community initiative organized by Ravena News-Herald, part of the Capital Region Independent Media.

The program, now an annual effort, brings together local donors, volunteers, and non-profits to ensure that local families facing food insecurities can celebrate the holiday with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Each family received a package including a turkey and all the traditional fixings, assembled and distributed in the days leading up to the holiday.

RCS Middle and High School expresses gratitude for the continued partnership, noting how meaningful the support is for students and their families. Organizers at the Ravena News-Herald emphasized that the success of the program relies on the generosity of the community, businesses like TCI of New York, Ravena Shop ‘n’ Save, and the dedication of nonprofits that help deliver or set up pick-up locations of the meals.

With this year’s distribution, this community program once again demonstrated the power of local collaboration in making the season brighter for those in need.

RCS continues to run its District Wide Food Collection Drive til Friday, December 5, to help support its backpack program. Read more about it here
