On Thursday, January 15, select ensembles from both RCS Middle School and RCS High School dazzled concertgoers at RCS High School with a diverse program filled with joyful melodies and impressive student solos.
The evening began with the Middle School Select Chorus, directed by Elizabeth Diaz. The ensemble performed four selections, creating a rich and expressive sound throughout their set. Highlights included a solo by Leah Ross on Carry the Light by Andy Beck, as well as a collaboration with the Middle School Percussion Ensemble on Tango, a Polynesian folk song arranged by Greg Gilpin.
Next, the RCS High School Harmonics, directed by Michelle McLaughlin, delivered a polished performance featuring tight harmonies and dynamic musicality. Their program included Rise Up by C. Battie and J. Deciveo, arranged by Mac Huff, with featured solos by Caileigh Burnham and Laila Rabideau, as well as a soli featuring Bella Grundman and Avery Valentin. The group concluded their set with Peze Kafe, a Haitian folk song arranged by Sten Källman, showcasing vibrant rhythms and textures. This piece featured Adam Gardner, Isabella McSweeny, Laila Rabideau, and Violet Wichmann.
Following a brief intermission for a stage change, the Middle and High School Jazz Ensembles took the spotlight and brought the program to a swinging close.
The Middle School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Daniel Galliher, set an upbeat tone with energetic tempos and solo riffs performed by Middle School students. The RCS High School Jazz Ensemble maintained the momentum and concluded the evening on a high note with Whirly Bird by Neal Hefti, arranged by Peter Blair. This performance featured several soloists, including RCS seniors, Tri-M Music Honor Society members, and musicians selected for the 2025 GCMEA All-County Festival Jazz Ensemble.
