For three unforgettable performances from Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8, the RCS High School Drama Club transformed the stage into the mythic underworld of Hadestown: Teen Edition, delivering a production that felt every bit like a Broadway opening night.
With a company of 61 students, 37 performers on stage and 24 working behind the scenes as part of the stage crew this year’s musical was a powerful celebration of collaboration, creativity, and student artistry. From the first notes of the opening number to the final emotional moments of the story, audiences were drawn into the timeless tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, brought to life with energy, commitment, and remarkable musical talent by the students of RCS.
Director Michelle McLoughlin said the show was chosen in part because it offered something new for the Drama Club. Known for its unique blend of folk, jazz, and contemporary musical storytelling, Hadestown presented an exciting challenge for the performers and the production team alike. The students rose to that challenge with confidence, creating a performance that was both visually striking and emotionally powerful.
Sunday’s performance also highlighted the Drama Club’s commitment to making the arts accessible to everyone in the community. For the second year in a row, the high school drama production featured American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, ensuring that audience members had the opportunity to fully experience the music, story, and emotion of the show.
Across the three performances, the auditorium was filled with enthusiastic audiences, and the cast and crew were grateful for the community’s support. Weeks of rehearsals, preparation, and collaboration culminated in a weekend that celebrated not only the story on stage but also the spirit of teamwork and creativity that defines the RCS High School Drama Club.
By the time the final curtain fell on Sunday afternoon, Hadestown: Teen Edition had become more than just a school musical. It was a showcase of student talent, commitment, and passion for the performing arts, and a memorable theatrical experience for everyone who attended.
