S.A.D.D. Mock Crash Returns to High School Before Junior Prom

On Thursday, May 14, RCS S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will host an assembly and a **mock crash for RCS High School students during the school day. This event is in partnership with Albany County STOP-DWI and the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

The goal of the event is to remind students about the dangers and real-life consequences of driving under the influence. Emergency vehicles will be present on campus to conduct this demonstration.

We believe this is an important message to convey to our students as we approach significant milestone events, such as prom, graduation, and the end of the school year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Funck, the High School Principal, at 518-756-5200 ext. 2003.

** The mock crash with local emergency personnel outside of the high school has been reimagined due to the projected weather forecast on Thursday, May 14. Students will still participate in the assembly.

On the day of the event, students attending Junior Prom participated in an assembly hosted by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. During the presentation, students heard firsthand accounts from individuals who have either been involved in or responded to accidents caused by impaired or distracted driving.

Following the assembly, students moved to the gymnasium, where they participated in a variety of simulations, including field sobriety tests and fine motor skill activities while wearing impairment goggles designed to simulate the effects of alcohol, marijuana, and opioids.

Students also had the opportunity to test drive a vehicle equipped to limit driver reaction time, recreating the experience of impaired driving in a controlled environment.
