Letter to HS Families Regarding Cancelation of the Homecoming Dance; 09-15-2021

Dear Families,

Unfortunately, we are writing to share the news that the Homecoming 2021 Dance scheduled for September 25th has been canceled. Many factors come into play when gathering in large groups, including contact tracing and being in a high-transmission COVID-19 zone.  We will be unable to safely host the homecoming dance as stated on the District Calendar.

Student Government was hopeful that restrictions and transmission rates would have changed but they have not changed enough to provide a space where all students would have the opportunity to safely attend. Safety has been, and will continue to be, our uppermost priority as we continue through the school year. Large-scale indoor social events pose the risk of closing our schools and that is not a risk that we are willing to take. Student Government is hoping to host a 9th and 10th-grade dance and then a separate 11th and 12th-grade dance sometime this school year; if your child is interested we suggest they reach out to their student government representative.

As a reminder for the Homecoming Game, we have implemented the following safety plans around evening outdoor sporting events in order to protect our spectators and athletes:

  • All non-high school students (Elementary and Middle School students) must be accompanied by an adult for entrance to evening sporting events. The adult accompanying the non-high school student(s) will be responsible for the child’s behavior and well-being throughout the duration of the sporting event.

  • All spectators must either be seated in the bleachers or standing at the fence around the field. Exceptions will be made for attendees using the restroom or patronizing our concession stand.

  • Please be conscious of maintaining social distancing when in congested areas, while seated, and while standing at the fence. Although masks are not required outdoors, the CDC recommends wearing masks in congested areas, even when outdoors.

We understand that this has been a difficult couple of years for our families. We would like to return to as much normalcy as possible, but our top priority is to make sure we keep our community safe and we are able to keep our schools open. Thank you for your understanding regarding the matter, we appreciate your cooperation as we work to continue in-person instruction.

Thank you,

Dr. Lisa A. Patierne
