In the twilight hours just before February break, 28 students, teachers, staff members, and parents boarded a bus on the first leg of an amazing trip to Costa Rica. Although sleepy, excitement was in the air as they began their 8-day journey across the Central American country.
This EF Tours trip was the first opportunity in over ten years for RCS students to head out and explore the world through an extra-curricular trip. Although the first in a while, it is not the last. There is another trip heading out to Italy, Spain & France over the upcoming Spring Recess and to Spain in February 2024.
These trips, in partnership with EF Tours, allow students to explore a world well beyond their front doors and sometimes thousands of miles away. These excursions are an empowering, educational opportunity that some students might not have had if it wasn’t for the trip. With tour opportunities to 50+ countries and themes that align with the NYS curriculum, the chance to bring the textbook to life has, without a doubt, changed lives.
“It was one heck of an adventure,” said Ted Smith, RCS Middle School English Teacher. “The kids (and adults) learned so much, both about Costa Rica and themselves, that they will never forget. It truly was a wonderful trip.”
During the adventure, the group explored many aspects of the country and its culture on their Discover Costa Rica trip. They packed in as many learning experiences as possible. On day two, they took part in a Britt Coffee Tour, went zip-lining, and enjoyed some of the local cuisines. During the trip, they also went white water rafting on the Sarapiqui River, participated in a chocolate tour at the Tirimbina Biological Reserve, hiked through and explored various National Parks, visited waterfalls, snorkeled, explored towns, and so much more!
“We are incredibly grateful for this amazing opportunity for our staff and students,” said RCS Middle School Principal Denise Capece. “We learned a lot about the people and customs of Costa Rica, and it was wonderful to see so many animals and vegetation in their environment that are different from what we typically see in the United States. These are memories that we will share forever!”
We are happy to report that everyone had an absolutely wonderful time! We look forward to sharing the experiences from future trips. Stay tuned!
