RCS Welcomes New Middle School Assistant Principal Stephen Doran

We would like to welcome Mr. Stephen Doran as our new RCS Middle School Assistant Principal. Mr. Doran will be replacing outgoing Assistant Principal Mr. Chris Adamek, who has joined the leadership team of the Niskayuna Central School District. Mr. Doran was appointed at the Special Board of Education Meeting that was held on July 27. Read the questions and answers below to learn more about Mr. Doran and his excitement at joining the RCS team.

Can you tell RCS a little bit about yourself?

I grew up locally and went through the South Colonie School District as a student. From there, I attended The College of Saint Rose and played on the basketball team. After college, I spent the next seventeen years as an educator in South Colonie. I taught at both the elementary and middle school levels and was the 9th Grade Dean for the 2021-22 school year at Colonie Central High School.

When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time on the beach, on the golf course, and at our family home on Sacandaga Lake. My wife, Erica, teaches elementary music, and we have two children, Cameron (11) and Stella (6).

Why did you want to become an administrator?

I wanted to become an administrator because I found that I truly enjoy working with all the moving parts of a school building. From being part of multiple committees to working with the entire staff and student body, it’s such a rewarding experience to set common goals and work collectively to achieve them.

What makes a great Assistant Principal?

To me, a great Assistant Principal is someone who can step in and work as a team with the building principal and the building staff. I feel that Principal Capece and I will work extremely well together. I also feel it is important that an Assistant Principal help support the direction and vision of the principal, support staff and sometimes even bring a fresh perspective.

It’s also a huge part of my leadership philosophy that I build as many positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.

How can the families, students, or community members contact you?

I always encourage students, families, and community members to contact me with any questions or concerns. I do my best to make myself available whether it be in person, by phone, or via email. My email address is sdoran@rcscsd.org. You can also call the school at 518-756-5200 ext. 3001.

What would you like to share with our Middle School families?

I would like to share with Middle School families that I am extremely motivated and excited to start this job at RCS. When I began looking for administrative jobs, it was important to me that, not only was the school a good fit for me, but I was a good fit for that school. I will work hard every day to foster a community where knowledge, kindness, and support are at the forefront of our efforts.

I am grateful for the opportunity. I look forward to meeting and working with you all!
