Students playing with new games

Three in a row makes tic-tac-toe for these pre-kindergarten students! Recently, Mrs. Engelhardt’s classroom was gifted tic-tac-toe games from Mr. Bevington’s Introduction to Production Systems Technology class. Eager to share their passion for designing and production with some of our youngest learners at A.W. Becker Elementary School, these games will live in class and be used to teach a number of topics including letters, working together, rules, and critical thinking!

“We were so excited to receive these games!” said Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Mrs. Engelhardt. “It was a wonderful surprise, and the students have really enjoyed playing with them. They love that the games were hand-made by some of our older students!”

Mr. Bevington’s class spent a few weeks designing, building, and finishing 8 games for Mrs. Engelhardt’s classroom. Using their creativity and collaboration skills, the class created unique game boards that were even embossed with a logo for the classroom. The students made the game boards out of wood and paint and exercised their woodworking skills and techniques to get them just right.

The pre-k students got to use them right away with the help of STARS Volunteer Pat Ross and Student-Teacher Abbey Greco. The students had a great time, as there is no better gift than a game of fun and knowledge!
