The students of Starbees continue to make a meaningful impact both in school and in the community. Over the last few months, the student-run life skills program at Pieter B. Elementary proudly raised and donated $1,000 to the Albany VA, a charitable organization selected by the students.
Through Starbees, students develop valuable communication, social, math, and customer service skills while serving coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to staff on Friday mornings. The program also teaches the importance of giving back, allowing students to choose causes they want to support with the funds they raise.
Students recently presented the donation to Jason Goman, a representative from the Albany VA. Helping with the presentation of the check and helpers for the day were student volunteers Caileigh and Gianna. In honor of the occasion, Gianna wore her grandfather’s military dog tag. A Vietnam veteran who utilized VA services, his tag served as a meaningful reminder for the day of the impact the organization has on veterans and their families.
Congratulations to the Starbees team on another successful year!
